The Vault 6 Preview 2 is now available to users who wish to review, test, and offer feedback on the new features of Vault 6.0 software.
There are three new features of note:
- Find in Files - This release allows the command line and GUI clients to search for text within non-binary files found within the repository. Future expansion for actual release will be support for searching with regular expressions.
- Event Notifications - This release allows the GUI client to see notifications generated by events occuring within Vault. Change sets as well as Checkout List changes can be seen in the GUI Client. Also the Vault Professional preview allows users to see Work Item changes directly in the GUI client. Future expansion for actual release will be Notification support within the Visual Studio Enhanced Client.
To get started, configure Notifications in the Vault or VaultPro Client under Tools->Options->Notifications. Add your email address, and select the source control events and folders and files you wish to watch. Whenever a change is made to that item, you’ll get a notification. If using VaultPro, you can also select the Work Item Projects and Work Item events you wish to be notified about. When work items and comments are updated, added or deleted, you’ll get a notification.
- Support for Vault 6 Classic client integration with SQL Server Management Studio.
Also included in this preview release is the new Vault GUI Client for Mac OS X.
To install the Vault GUI Client for Mac OS X, follow these instructions:
- Unzip the downloaded archive to a location on your Mac. The unzipped archive (folder) contains two items: the Vault Mac application bundle, and an installer for Mono 2.10.6 runtime.
- Run the Mono 2.10.6 installer to install this version of Mono on your Mac computer. Mono 2.10.6 is the version we have tested with this Vault Mac preview release.
- Now select the Vault Mac application bundle, and drag it into your Applications folder on your Mac. You can now launch the Vault Mac client as a standard Mac application.
To enable Diff / Merge in the Mac client, we recommend the following:
- Download and install the latest DiffMerge for Mac OS X from SourceGear:
http://www.sourcegear.com/diffmerge/downloads.html
- Open Diff/Merge options in the Vault Mac GUI Client:
Tools -> Options -> Diff/Merge
- Set the location for the DiffMerge program. For example, the path may be something like:
/Applications/DiffMerge.app/Contents/MacOS/DiffMerge
- In the Arguments textbox, change forward slashes ("/") to dashes ("-")
Mac Client Known Issues:
The Vault GUI Client for Mac OS X relies on the Mono cross-platform .NET framework. There are several known bugs in Mono's support for WinForms on Mac OS X that cause problems in Vault's user interface. We are working to address as many of these issues as we can between now and the final release of our Vault 6 client for Mac OS X.
